"A  three  person  show  was  held  at  Canvas  Gallery  in  Karachi.  The  show  was  refreshingly  different  and  explored  a  rather  unique  perspective.  Three  sisters,  Durre  Waseem,  Hamama  Tul  Bushra  and  Nausheen  Saeed  use  their  very  personal  perspectives  and  inspirations  to  create  art.  Despite  their  similar  upbringing  and  living  together  in  the  same  house  for  a  good  portion  of  their  life,  they  each  have  a  distinct  artistic  style  and  technique.

Durre  Waseem  focuses  on  the  energy  of  space.  Her  work  reflects  her  response  to  visual  environment;  impressionistic  paintings  which  kindle  a  sense  of  familiarity.  “She  allows  her  subjects  to  guide  and  inspire  her,  creating  fresh  hues  imbibing  the  personality  of  the  subject.  However,  the  colour  she  adds  are  her  own,  maintaining  a  subtle  sense  of  control  over  her  work.”  Her  work  is  spontaneous  and  unplanned,  in  the  sense,  that  the  artist  doesn’t  pick  a  location  or  pose  ahead  of  time.  This  gives  her  work  flexibility  and  undoubtedly  adds  the  energy  and  impulsivity  one  sees  in  her  work.
“Hamama  Tul  Bushra’s  work  has  a  strong  graphic  sensibility.  Her  feminine  forms,  painted  in  vibrant  and  rich  shades,  adorning  jewellery  and  henna  are  traditional,  but  not  submissive  or  shy,  rather  they  are  bold  and  confident  females  staring  back  at  the  viewer.  Using  women  from  her  surroundings,  she  stylises  their  inner  soul  with  bright  colours  and  patterns  celebrating  female  diversity  and  individuality.”

Finally,  Nausheen  Saeed’s  paintings  deal  with  memories  and  stories  that  live  within  the  walls  of  a  home.  Her  work  has  a  sense  of  nostalgia  and  there’s  a  feeling  of  longing  for  simpler  times.  Her  work  acts  as  a  tribute  to  her  childhood  home,  she  uses  her  personal  memories  to  create  spaces  of  her  past.  Her  work  gives  off  a  sculptural  feel,  in  spite  of  the  fact  that  its  done  in  2D.    The  artist  shares  that,  “I  grew  up  in  a  house  which  was  in  constant  flux  of  expanding  and  changing  according  to  the  needs  of  the  habitants.  My  mother  being  a  compulsive  constructor  approached  building  material  as  a  means  to  construct  our  lives.  I  grew  up  with  the  smell  of  cement,  plaster,  paint.  This  exhibition  is  special  to  me.  My  learning/response  to  my  work  and  sharing  it  with  fellow  artists  who  happen  to  be  In  my  life  much  before  I  claimed  to  an  artist  disjoin  me.  I  see  my  work  as  an  independent  expression,  but  with  my  siblings  the  same  work  in  different  context/time  changed  its  meaning.  My  work  encapsulates  my  experiences  in  a  house  with  my  siblings  and  parents.  I  see  house  as  a  fluid  concept.  Similarly,  I  see  my  work  to  be  fluid.  It  is  changing  according  to  the  participants  inhabits/sharing  the  place.  I  see  myself  as  a  grown  up,  but  the  house  I  lived  in  once  and  still  residing  in,  continues  to  grow  with  me.  “

Wonderfully  and  thoughtfully  curated  and  created  ,  the  three  sisters  have  put  together  a  lovely  exhibition  showcasing  their  current  series  of  work."
